There is a strong sensuality to some of Peter Paul Rubens’ paintings, and this painting seems to be an example. He portrays the Virgin Mary not as a sweet girl, but as a voluptuous woman.

I don’t know what that means, and I’m not even all that crazy about this painting. Still, it’s such a unique and unexpected vision that I have to post it on my blog.
