Adoration of the Magi by Domenico Ghirlandaio

This painting is surprisingly busy, and there is no attempt at accuracy, either historical or biblical. John the Baptist appears in the left corner as a grown man, not a fellow baby. The Magi and the townspeople are dressed as Italian princes would have dressed in his day.

And yet, it does not overwhelm the viewer. He also strives for the truth behind the story, rather than concerning himself with accuracy and what may or may not have happened. Bravo Domenico, bravo.
