I saw a small, but lovely, production of La Boheme at the Ohio Theater in June. This is an aria sung by one of the characters, who is going to sell his winter coat to provide Mimi with a muff to keep her hands warm.
When I saw this, some annoying person said, “It’s just a coat!” As my mom said, “Says the woman who has tons of coats and who can easily go to Macy’s and buy a new coat!” The character sacrifices his coat for the sake of a friend on death’s door. It’s very moving.
