Get Rid of the Blockbuster: My 2020 Resolution

Now that we have started 2019, I have a wish for 2020.  I want a 20 year moratorium of the blockbuster.

By this, I mean, that for 20 years, Hollywood shouldn’t make any films that cost more than $20 million.

This won’t happen, I know.

But, in an effort to do my part, I will not see any blockbusters in 2020.

I might make an exception for blockbusters directed by women and/or people of color, so I might see that one film that Hollywood makes.  But let’s face it.  That will be an exceptionally limited number of films.

My main goal, though, is to be part of the solution.  I want Hollywood to make a wider variety of films, not just superhero movies or remakes of popular properties.  But I can’t expect Hollywood to do that if I am not willing to show up at the movie theaters and pay money to see those films.  So, next year, I will go to the movie theater and pay money to see the kind of films that I want to see.
