What I learned from Malawi

When I was in 6th grade, I was supposed to do a report on the country of Malwai.  I did almost no research and made up random stuff.  I got a D on the paper, and even that was too generous.

This experience pains me to this day.  Whenever I see the country Malawi listed, I remember this painful experience.

That’s actually a good thing.

When I was in college, I never pulled an all nighter.  Not once.  Even during the fall semester of my senior year, when I wrote 13 papers (and I am only counting pages that were at least 5 pages long), I never pulled an all nighter.

I think in many ways, that was due to Malawi.  I learned what happened when I did not plan accordingly and had to hastily throw something together at the last minute.

My mom says “Good judgement comes from experience, and experience comes from bad judgement.”  I had terrible judgement when I was 12 (as all 12 year olds do) and I learned from that experience.  That’s the most important thing.
