Documentaries You Should See: One Child Nation

One Child Nation is a film about the effects of the One Child Policy in China.  The film does not shy away from the drastic, pervasive, and often brutal actions taken by the Chinese government to control family size, as well as the actions taken by families in response, both to hide “illegal” children and to dispose of unwanted girls.

It is by no means light viewing, though I knew what I was getting into so I did not find it difficult to watch.  But it is both a broad and intimate examination of what happened, and what is happening, in China as a result of this policy.
